BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Trailing by two midway through the 1st half, the University of New England stormed back for a 6-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey victory over Gordon College on Wednesday afternoon (Sep. 26) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
Six different players scored for the Nor'easters (5-4, 4-0 CCC) on their way to a fifth straight triumph. UNE has now taken the last nine meetings from the Fighting Scots (3-8, 0-4 CCC).
Gordon netted the first two goals with 15:00 and 19:23 elapsed in the opening period, credited to Mackenzie Gray and Paige Blake.
The hosts got on the board just over six minutes later, when
Sydney Liptak finished a pass from
Kendra MacDonald. Then, 33 seconds before halftime,
Brooke Lemerise pocketed the equalizer off a feed from
Reanna Boulay.
The 2nd half was all Nor'easters, who racked up the initial 19 shots attempts of the frame.
Nicole Grady wasted no time giving UNE the edge (3-2), batting home a bouncing ball at the 35:36 mark

Bailey Lynch in the 50th minute

Marge Gardiner to make it 5-2

Kersey Boulay capped the offensive effort with a penalty stroke in the waning minutes.
For UNE, which totaled sizable margins in shots (29-6) and penalty corners (14-2),
Liz Sargent made two saves. On the other side, Gordon's Julia Altman posted 13 stops and received four defensive saves from Abigail Seay.
The Nor'easters hit the road this weekend for games at Salve Regina University (Saturday, 1 p.m.) and No.18 Trinity College (Sunday, 12 p.m.).
