BIDDEFORD, Maine – Bates College scored a goal in each half to grab a 2-0 victory over the University of New England in men's soccer action at UNE Blue Storm Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Bobcats (2-1) got the scoring started in the 37th minute as Ciaran Bardong headed in a pass off a set piece from Drew Munoz.
The best opportunity for UNE (1-3) came in the 66th minute as
Matthew McLeod chipped the ball up to an open
Cody Kennedy behind the defense. The shot by Kennedy went just wide as the game remained 1-0.
Late in the second half, Charlie Cronin crossed a pass from the opposite side of the field and found Ben Lyons just inside the box to make the score 2-0.
Shots on the night favored Bates 24-7. Goalkeeper
Will Shearon made 11 saves for UNE.
The Nor'easters open Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at home against Gordon College on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
