BIDDEFORD, Maine – Colby Obrecht scored in the 59th minute to lift the University of New England to a season-opening 1-0 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in men's soccer action on Friday night at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
 
A long throw-in by Cody Kennedy was punched out by Mariners' keeper Joshua Reeks, but found the foot of Obrecht who launched a rocket from the top of the box for the lone score. [Watch]
 
Each team had chances early on as shots on goal were square a 3-3 at halftime. UNE had two early shots in the first three minutes of play. Maine Maritime looked to have a goal in the 26th minute as the ball was rolling towards an open net until a Nor'easter defender cleared it away to keep the game scoreless.
 
UNE out-shot the Mariners 15-11 overall and 8-5 on goal. Goalkeepers Nathan Delesdernier and Will Shearon combined for four saves in the shutout.
 
The Nor'easters return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 4 on the road at Bowdoin. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
