Nor'easters hang on for 13-11 triumph at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. -- The University of New England had a pair of four-goal leads during 2nd-half action before securing a 13-11 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse victory over Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 14) at Lawrence Avenue Field.

With the win, the Nor'easters go to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in CCC outings. The Seahawks slip back to 9-4 on the year, 3-2 in league contests.

UNE trailed at 2-1 in the 1st period until three straight established the lead for good. The margin grew to 8-4 at halftime, and hit that mark again (11-7) with the first two goals of the 4th. Salve pulled within two inside the final minute.

Tyler Nevers backstopped the result with a season-high 17 saves for the Nor'easters. Tom Luttrell led the attack with three goals, and two more came from Alex Zadworny, Garett Bozek, and Collin Morrow. Mitch Mullin registered one and assisted on three others. Matt Layton, Jason Erwin, and Zach Bossi accounted for the rest.

For the Seahawks, Zack Makoske totaled seven points on three goals and four assists. Andrew Fera and Ethan Robson contributed three and two goals, respectively, while Pat Leary had two goals and three helpers. Matt D'Amore logged 16 stops in front of the cage.

The Nor'easters are back at home on Wednesday (4 p.m.) to entertain Curry College.
