#6 Tufts stays perfect at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Jac Knapp scored 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field to lead No.6 Tufts University in an 85-59 result against the University of New England women's basketball squad on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 8) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The nationally-ranked Jumbos moved to 8-0 on the year, while the Nor'easters settle back to 4-6 overall.

Emily Briggs chipped in with 16 points and three steals for the visitors, and Erica DeCandido supported with 12 points, eight boards, and five assists. Knapp also had five helpers.

Tufts picked up 13 steals in forcing 23 UNE turnovers, which translated into 27 points going the other direction.

For the Nor'easters, Ashley Coneys matched a season-high with 21 points; she went 6-of-8 from the floor and 7-for-8 at the line. Jocelyn Chaput added 11 points and six boards, and Allie Goodman collected a team-best seven rebounds.

The Jumbos pulled in front for good with a quick seven before the midway mark of the 1st quarter (11-4), and led by nine after 10 minutes. The teams traded six-point runs to begin the 2nd, prior to an 8-0 spurt that set Tufts ahead by a 37-20 margin. The spread was 43-25 at the break, and the gap shifted between 18 and 27 the rest of the way.

UNE (2-0 CCC) will resume action on January 3 (5:30 p.m.) with a Commonwealth Coast Conference home date versus Gordon College (0-3 CCC).
