Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Bates College shot 66 percent from the field after halftime to break away from a tied game and pick up a 104-84 result against the University of New England men's basketball team on Monday night (Nov. 26) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Bobcats (2-2) knocked down 25-of-38 shot attempts in the 2nd period to gain the separation, while the Nor'easters (1-4) made just 23 percent (11-of-48) of their tries in the frame.

Coming out of a 49-49 deadlock at the break, Bates took the lead for good on the third basket of the half. Things were still close (70-66) near the midway mark of the stanza, but runs of 13-0 and 11-0 helped the visitors establish a 98-74 cushion down the stretch.

Nick Lynch led the Bobcats with a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds; he made 10-of-12 field goal looks in the contest. Jeff Spellman registered 13 of his 19 points during the final 20 minutes, and secured nine boards. Kody Greenhalgh added 12 points and five assists. Nick Gilpin and James Mortimer both accounted for 11 points.

UNE was paced by 12 points from Drew Muniz, with 11 apiece coming from Ryan Beatty and Drake Gavin. Ricardo Castillo contributed nine points from behind the arc. Beatty also corralled a team-high six rebounds.

First-half action saw Bates take a 22-16 edge, before the Nor'easters counted with 10 unanswered to spark a 19-3 run that provided the largest lead for the hosts at 35-25. UNE was still up seven (47-40) with less than two minutes remaining in the period, but came up empty on five of six possessions in the waning moments to let the Bobcats draw back even.

Bates scored 23 points off 16 UNE turnovers during the initial 20 minutes, which helped negate the Nor'easters' eight-point advantage from long range (9-of-20 to 1-for-7).

UNE gets back to work on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) versus Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
