Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The No.8 University of New England men's hockey team scored four power-play goals in less than three minutes late in the second period to break away from Bowdoin College en route to a 7-1 win on Tuesday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.

With the score tied 1-1 in the middle frame, the Polar Bears were assessed a five-minute major penalty that gave UNE an extended power-play. The Nor'easters (6-1 overall) peppered net with chances and made it 5-1 with goals by Jeff Eppright, a couple from Brady Fleurent, and then Dimitris Jones. UNE out-shot Bowdoin, 21-6, in the session.

Jimmy Elser and Brendan Donohue padded the lead in the third period.

Dylan Bengtson opened the scoring for UNE with five minutes left in the first, but Albert Washco countered for the Polar Bears to tie the game at the end of 20 minutes. The visitors nearly pulled in front midway through the second, but a diving stop on an open net by Tate Sproxton kept the game square.

Fleurent, who finished the night with five points, was matched by Tyler Seltenreich and Ryan Bloom with three assists. Fleurent's first tally established the program-record for career goals (51), surpassing the mark of his brother Trevor '17.

Sproxton made 26 saves to pick up the win in his first start of the year between the pipes. Alex Zafonte made 37 saves for Bowdoin (1-2).

The Nor'easters are back in action on Saturday afternoon at the University of Southern Maine. Puck drops at USM Ice Arena in Gorham at 4 p.m.
