BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Trinity College (Conn.) used a balanced attack to defeat the University of New England men's basketball squad, 106-87, in the championship game of the Hampton Inn Jim Beaudry Classic on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 17) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Tha Bantams (2-0) were paced by a 19-point, seven-rebound effort by Colin Donovan. Christian Porydzy nearly recorded a triple-double, finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. All-Tournament accolades went to Kyle Padmore (Most Valuable Player) and Nick Seretta; Padmore notched 14 points, eight boards, and six helpers, while Seretta dropped in 17 points.
Connor Merinder and Donald Jorden contributed 12 points apiece, and Jorden corralled nine more rebounds that helped the visitors post a 58-37 advantage on the glass.
For the Nor'easters (1-2), All-Tournament selections
Jackson McCoy and
Avery DeBrito dialed up 18 and 12 points, respectively.
Alex Kravchuk added 10.
UNE played even with Trinity in the 2nd period (57-57), but could only close what was a 25-point 1st-half deficit to 15 (83-68) with 7:21 left. The Bantams had jumped out to an 11-2 edge less than two minutes into the contest.
The hosts struggled from behind the arc in the game, connecting on just 15 percent of their tries (5-of-34).
In the consolation match earlier in the afternoon, Husson University climbed out of an early 12-point hole to top Fitchburg State University, 99-84. DJ Bussey (Husson) and Kameron Jimenez-Fox (Fitchburg) joined the All-Tournament Team.
The Nor'easters will look to rebound against Bowdoin College at home on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.).
