Kendra MacDonald netted three goals as the University of New England cruised to a 4-1 victory over Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey action Saturday afternoon (Oct. 6) at Golden Bear Stadium.
The Nor'easters (7-6, 6-1 CCC) took an early lead on MacDonald's first tally in the 7th minute. The Golden Bears (3-9, 3-4 CCC) got even in the 31st minute on their only shot of the initial frame, taken by Halle Harvey.
MacDonald wasted little time getting the lead back for UNE, as she converted a feed from
Sydney Liptak in the 39th minute and another from
Marge Gardiner in the 41st.
Jillian Lachapelle then made upped the cushion to three in the 49th minute.
Liz Sargent denied two shots in 55:10 of work to earn the goalkeeping victory for the Nor'easters, who ended with sizable advantages in shots (17-5) and penalty corners (12-3). Dana Dufour logged three stops for WNEU.
UNE is scheduled to take on No.9 Babson College on Tuesday (6 p.m.) in Biddeford.
