Roggenbuck guides UNE past SJC, 3-1

STANDISH, Maine -- Rene Roggenbuck dialed up 14 kills and posted 19 points to lead the University of New England women's volleyball team in a 3-1 triumph (25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19) over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Thursday evening (Oct. 25) at the Harold Alfond Center.

The Nor'easters closed with a 5-1 run to narrowly take the opening set, and then used an early 10-4 stretch to gain an edge in the 2nd. The Monks held a slim advantage for most of the 3rd to split the overall deficit in half (2-1), but the visitors turned in an 11-3 spurt to break away from 13-all in the 4th on the way to the victory.

In addition to her match-best kills total, Roggenbuck also recorded a high of four service aces for UNE (10-16). Katie Flynn, Paige Simoneau, and Stephanie Erickson supported the attack with nine, eight, and six kills, respectively. Sydney Christiansen notched a double-double of 37 assists and 14 digs. While Flynn and Molly Camelo paced the back-line effort with 15 digs, Katie Marsh chipped in with 12 more.

St. Joe's received 17.5 points from Erin Olson, which included 12 kills and three solo blocks. Sarah Quinn matched those 12 winners, and Kelsey Bickford contributed another 11. Sarah Dyer reached double digits in both assists (21) and digs (15); Jennelle Thompson topped all players with 27 digs.

The Nor'easters will close out the regular-season with a Commonwealth Coast Conference match at home on Saturday (1 p.m.) against Salve Regina University.
