UNE tops Wentworth to clinch home tournament game

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-1, in the regular-season finale on Tuesday at UNE Blue Storm Stadium. The victory secures one of the hosting seeds in the opening round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship.

Katie Beaudoin received a long feed from Erica Dimmick just outside the box and connected for her sixth goal of the season to put the Nor'easters in front 1-0 in the 15th minute. [Watch]

UNE (7-7-2, 5-2-1 CCC) added some necessary insurance in the 57th minute, as Amanda Gagne led Caroline Wilson into the box for a score [Watch]. Wentworth (7-9-2, 2-5-1 CCC) cut the deficit in the half in the 67th minute on a goal by Danielle McDonnell, but the Nor'easters held strong the rest of the way to pick up the win.

Jenna Pannone made four saves for the hosts on the afternoon.

UNE, the tournament's No.3 seed, will welcome sixth-seeded Salve Regina University back to Barbara Hazard Field on Saturday (12 p.m.) [Interactive Bracket]. The Nor'easters topped the Seahawks by a 2-0 spread on October 6.
