BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kristen McCarthy scored on either side of halftime as Endicott College flipped a one-goal deficit for a 4-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey result against the University of New England in the rain on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 2) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.

The Gulls (9-2) take over sole possession of first place in the league standings at 6-0, separating from a tie with the Nor'easters (6-6, 5-1 CCC).

The visitors struck first just 3:01 into the contest, as Julie Champigny poked in a rebound. UNE answered in the 10th minute, as Julia Steeves finished a pass from Kendra MacDonald to knot things up.

MacDonald also helped the hosts gain a 2-1 lead in the 26th minute, as she found Nicole Grady for the go-ahead tally. But with 4:45 left before the midway break, McCarthy put a redirection on a drive by Blake Braman to bring Endicott back level.

The sides played more than 20 minutes in a deadlock, before McCarthy converted a rebound to push the Gulls in front (52nd minute). EC got some insurance in the 60th minute, when Addi Williams tipped in a hit off the stick of Sydney Poulin.

Taylor Farrin totaled six stops for Endicott, which ended on top of an 18-11 cushion in shot attempts.

For the Nor'easters, Liz Sargent posted eight saves and received one defensive stop from defender Marge Gardiner.

UNE will visit Western New England University for a CCC date on Saturday (1 p.m.).
