BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Kendra MacDonald and
Sydney Liptak combined for five scores as the University of New England picked up a 6-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey win over Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 13) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
The Nor'easters (8-7, 7-1 CCC) struck five times during a 21-minute span in the 1st half to grab a commanding lead. Liptak got the offense started in the 11th minute with a feed from
Julia Paini, before netting her other just 3:21 later off a pass from
Kersey Boulay.
Reanna Boulay finished a feed from her older sister to make it 3-0, and MacDonald notched a pair of unassisted tallies to pad the cushion.
After Lea Peterson converted a feed from Hannah Gaffney in the 47th minute to get the Hawks (6-8, 3-5 CCC) on the board, MacDonald completed her hat trick in the 53rd minute as Kersey posted her third helper.
UNE had decided advantages in shots (23-4) and penalty corners (12-1) during the match, forcing RWU goalie Callie Flanagan into nine saves. For the hosts,
Liz Sargent recorded one stop in 53 minutes of work.
The Nor'easters, who secured their spot in the league postseason with the result, entertain Nichols College on Tuesday (4 p.m.).
