Fighting Scots halt UNE in CCC action

WENHAM, Mass. -- Gordon College shot 59 percent from the field after halftime to separate from the University of New England and pick up a 126-108 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball victory on Wednesday evening (Jan. 24) at the Bennett Center.

Eric Demers poured in 37 points, largely behind seven three-pointers, to lead the Fighting Scots (12-6, 8-3 CCC). Garrisson Duvivier added a double-double of 18 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks; his efforts on the glass helped establish a 56-44 advantage in the category.

Gordon received scoring contributions from Jake Haar (12), Jake Hart (11), and Parker Omslaer (10). Both Jaren Yang and Josh Crutchfield totaled seven points and dished out eight assists. For the game, GC connected at a 52-percent clip from the floor and knocked down half (18-of-36) of its attempts from deep.

The Nor'easters (8-10, 6-5 CCC) got 16 points out of Daron Hoges, Jr. -- 12 of which came in the 1st period. Jackson McCoy chipped in with 11 points, and Alex Kravchuk recorded 10. Drew Coveney grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Fighting Scots led for most of the opening stanza, but fell behind 49-45 with 6:08 left. From there, Gordon tallied 17 of the next 22 points to gain an eight-point edge (62-54) shortly before the break.

UNE was still within five (82-77) nearing the midway mark of the 2nd half until Gordon registered 17 points in-a-row over 3:37 to take full control (101-79).

The Nor'easters will head for Roger Williams University on Saturday (3 p.m.).
