UNE closes strong to drop UMass Dartmouth, 3-1

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Following a narrow split of the 2nd and 3rd sets, the University of New England finished with a dominant 4th to upend the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth by a 3-1 margin (25-16, 27-25, 26-28, 25-12) on Saturday afternoon (Sep. 30) at the Tripp Center.

Winners of three straight, the Nor'easters (6-10) turned to Bekah Mather for a team-high 12 kills. Sydney Christiansen racked up 11 more, and nearly made it a triple-double performance with 18 assists and nine digs. Kristen Falcinelli put up 21 assists to help guide the attack, and also recorded a squad-best 17 defensive digs. Rene Roggenbuck tacked on 12 points with eight kills and four solo blocks, and Katie Marsh tossed in three service aces. Marsh and Molly Camelo notched 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

A match-high 15 kills came from the Corsairs' Amanda LaCroix, and Riley Thomas dialed up 28 assists. Defensively for UMass Dartmouth (7-6), Jillian Sykora accumulated 22 digs and Meghan Mullinax had another 15; Mullinax also registered five aces.

UNE's effort on the back line resulted in negative hitting percentages for the home side in three of the four frames.

The Nor'easters will venture for Curry College and a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match on Wednesday (6 p.m.).
