BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Connor Edwards blasted a one-timer inside the left post with just under 17 minutes remaining to give Roger Williams University a 2-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer result against the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Sep. 30) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The Hawks (6-4-2, 2-1 CCC) regained the lead with the help of a lengthy throw-in to the middle of the box by Lucas Watt and a soft header away from the cage by Kabine Conde that bounced perfectly into the stride of Edwards.
Sean Janson opened the scoring for Roger Williams in the 20th minute, curving a 19-yard free kick into the upper right corner.
Moments after an RWU attempt clanked off the crossbar, the Nor'easters (2-9, 1-2 CCC) knotted things up when
Cody Kennedy and
Callum Heaslewood connected for a give-and-go spanning 60 yards, with Heaslewood ultimately slipping a pass between several defenders and Kennedy ripping a high shot into the far side of the frame.Â
UNE had its own near miss at an advantage in the 34th minute, as a header caromed off the right post.
Edmund Geschickter turned in three stops for the Hawks. For the Nor'easters,
Nathan Delesdernier made five saves.
On Wednesday (4 p.m.), UNE will visit the University of Maine-Farmington for the non-league match.
