BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sean Munroe, Cooper Richards, and Ethan Ziemba each scored for Clark University in a 3-0 decision against the University of New England men's soccer squad on Wednesday night (Sep. 27) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The win moves the Cougars (4-2-3) to 3-0-1 in their last four outings. The Nor'easters drop back to 2-8.
Shots were even (5-5) during the 1st half, and UNE put more on-goal (4-3), but it was Munroe that put the visitors on the board in the 41st minute. Alex Nicholson chipped a ball behind the back line and Munroe managed to flick it between a defender and the goalie, sending it trickling into the net.
Clark played with that 1-0 advantage until the 79th minute, when Richards put a powerful header on-target. It was initially denied by the head of a defender, straight up in the air, however the first bounce then spun back off the crossbar and in.
Ziemba added a header, with assists from Isaac Smith and Evan Jurkowski on a corner kick, in the 89th minute.
Melvin Vincent made all four of his saves during the opening frame to pick up the shutout in his collegiate debut.
Will Shearon tied a season-high with seven stops for the Nor'easters, who will host Roger Williams University on Saturday (12 p.m.) in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.
