Nor'easters narrowly beat Bates in pre-varsity game, 28-27

LEWISTON, Maine – The University of New England football team defeated the Bates College JV-squad by a tally of 28-27 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 24) at Garcelon Field.

UNE is in the midst of a season's worth of games against collegiate junior varsity programs and prep schools, prior to starting its full varsity schedule and membership in Commonwealth Coast Football in 2018.

The majority of the offensive production came through the air, with Brian Peters hurling for 247 yards on 21-of-33 passes and two touchdowns. One of those scoring connections went to Haelin Roberts, who led the Nor'easters with six catches and 76 receiving yards. Danny Parker (receiving), Elijah Burns (rushing), and Parker Belsky (rushing) all crossed the goal line for touchdowns on short plays in the red zone.

Nick Scarfo turned in a team-high eight tackles to pace the UNE defense. Mitchell Hennings and Ronnie Mwai both had six solo tackles in support.

The Nor'easters have a week off before visiting the JV group at Tufts University on October 8 (1 p.m.).
