NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The University of New England football team claimed a 30-23 decision over the Norwich University JV-squad on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 17) at Sabine Field.
UNE is scheduled to play a season's worth of games against collegiate junior varsity programs and prep schools prior to starting its full varsity schedule and membership in
Commonwealth Coast Football in 2018.
Brian Peters led the aerial attack for the Nor'easters, going 14-for-20 for 97 yards passing.
Nick Granata connected with
Austin Dutremble for a 25-yard score, and
Peyton Phillips threw a 21-yard pass to
Haelin Roberts for a touchdown.
Dutremble topped the receiving corps with 80 yards of catches;
Ryan Gaboury and
Jack Mahoney shared the team-high with six receptions (58 and 27 total yards, respectively). Mahoney also racked up 94 yards on the ground, in 14 carries, and scored twice.
On defensive side,
Joe Kucky had a team-high 10 tackles, while
Patrick Saunders and
Mitchell Hennings both totaled nine on the afternoon.
Owen Berry contributed seven tackles.
UNE will be back in action Sunday (1 p.m.), taking on the JV squad at Bates College.
