BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Saint Joseph's College (Maine) did not have a player reach double digits in kills, but still found ways to record a 3-0 decision (25-17, 30-28, 25-18) against the University of New England on Thursday night (Sep. 14) in women's volleyball action at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Kelsey Bickford had a team-best nine kills for the Monks (5-4), while five apiece came from Sarah Dyer, Sophia Randall, Erin Olson, and Jordynne Copp. Randall also supported by dropping in four service aces, and Dyer put up 25 assists. Jennelle Thompson led a strong defensive effort with 26 digs, followed by Randall with 11 and Dyer at 10.

UNE got a match-high 11 winners out of Paige Simoneau. Molly Camelo went for a double-double of 10 kills and 21 digs, and Kristen Falcinelli, too, with 19 assists and 10 digs. Katie Marsh picked up 13 digs for the Nor'easters (2-8), as well.

After dropping the initial point of the contest, St. Joe's rattled off eight in-a-row to take control of the 1st set, and maintained a cushion of at least five the rest of the way.

The hosts assembled runs of 6-0 and 10-2 in the 2nd to build a 19-12 lead, but things were soon back even (19-19). SJC fought off three UNE set-points before play spilled over into bonus volleyball (24-24), and then Camelo eliminated a trio of set-points for the visitors with kills. However, Randall connected for a winner and an ace to give her side the stanza.

A 10-1 spurt by Saint Joseph's in the 3rd turned another tight battle into a 19-11 lead, and UNE could only get back as close as four before Bickford ultimately sealed the result.

The Nor'easters are off until Tuesday (5 p.m.) and the opening date of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play against Roger Williams University.
