BANGOR, Maine – With her side trailing entering the last 11 minutes,
Becca Murphy assisted on the equalizer and then netted the deciding goal as the University of New England secured a 3-2 women's soccer victory over Husson University on Tuesday afternoon (Sep. 12) at Boucher Field.
Murphy found
Jenna Cowan for the tying marker with a corner-kick service in the 80th minute, before notching her second game-winning goal in three outings during the 87th minute of action.
The Eagles had a couple tries prior to the final whistle, but neither found the target.
Winners of three straight, the Nor'easters (4-1) are now 17-3 all-time against Husson (1-3).
Penalty kicks for both teams accounted for the scoring in the 1st period, starting with UNE's
Katie Beaudoin in the 27th minute and then Leah Hibbad for the Eagles in the 40th. Hibbad later gave the hosts the lead (2-1) in the 61st minute.
Emily Ashman registered five stops in cage for UNE, while Sami Ireland made eight saves for Husson on the day.
The Nor'easters open up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at home on Saturday (12 p.m.) versus Western New England University.
