Maine Maritime begins 2017 with 2-0 win over Nor'easters

CASTINE, Maine -- Ike Doiron and Tom Samson scored five minutes apart in the middle of the 2nd half to give Maine Maritime Academy a 2-0 result against the University of New England in men's soccer action Friday evening (Sep. 1) at Ritchie Field.

The Nor'easters (0-1) out-shot the Mariners (1-0) by a 7-3 margin during the initial frame, but were unable to get one past goalkeeper Joshua Reeks, who recorded all five of his saves in the opening 45 minutes.

The momentum turned after halftime, when the hosts totaled a 13-2 advantage in shots. The goals came in the 67th and 72nd minutes, with assists credited to Colby Clarke and Dalton Moore, respectively.

Nathan Delesdernier made eight saves for UNE, which returns to Biddeford on Sunday (12 p.m.) for a match with Saint Joseph's College (Maine).
