Nor'easters collect 13-6 road win at Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine -- The University of New England outscored the University of Southern Maine 8-1 over the middle two quarters on its way to a 13-6 men's lacrosse victory Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 5) at Hannaford Field.

In winning its eight consecutive contest versus the Huskies, UNE improved its season record to 7-4. Southern Maine dipped to 3-4.

Dan Auger continued his outstanding play, totaling five points on three goals and two assists. Collin Morrow scored three times, and Alex Zadworny added a pair of markers.

Nate DelGuidice had three goals to pace the Huskies' attack.

With the Nor'easters trailing 3-2 late in the first frame, Tom Luttrell scored with five seconds remaining to tie the score. From there, UNE would score eight of the next nine goals over the second and third quarters to pull away. 

David Pearson played a strong match in goal for UNE, totaling 14 saves. Long-stick midfielder Adam Race racked up eight ground balls and four caused turnovers, while Matthew Layton and Connor Leggett won 11 of 17 face-offs, collectively.

The Nor'easters led 42-31 in shots and were 21-for-22 in clearing attempts.

Zach Bessette had 13 stops in goal for Southern Maine.

UNE will host Salve Regina University on Saturday at the Big Blue Turf (4 p.m.).
