QUINCY, Mass. -- Caroline Schoenbucher drove in seven runs to lead the University of New England in a 13-5 (6 innings) win over Eastern Nazarene College during the initial portion of a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball doubleheader on Monday afternoon (Apr. 3) at Mitchell/McCoy Field, before ENC walked-off with a 5-3 (8 innings) decision in the nightcap.

It was the first action 18 days for the Nor'easters, who stand at 5-5 overall (1-1 CCC). The Lions move to 9-6 on the season (1-3 CCC).

Schoenbucher's run production tied the highest single-game RBI total on-record (21+ years) at UNE. After a walk her first time up, she followed with back-to-back bases-clearing doubles and then an RBI-single.

Avery Alberghini and Sydney Helmbrecht also had three hits each in GAME 1 for the visitors, while benefiting from Schoenbucher's timely hitting to combine for seven runs scored.

The Nor'easters used a pair of ENC errors to help establish a 2-0 edge in the top of the 1st inning, only to see the Lions knot things up in the bottom of the frame with two out on a two-RBI single from Emily Gomez.

Five straight reached base with one away in the UNE 2nd, which included an RBI-single by Helmbrecht and Schoenbucher's first extra-base hit. Andrea Gosper later provided an RBI-double to make it 7-2. With two out in the 3rd, Alberghini and Helmbrecht filled things up for Schoenbucher to plate three more and extend the margin to 10-2.

Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit in half (10-5) during the 4th, as Rachel Caswell had a two-RBI single and Viviana Coix added a two-out RBI-double.

After Schoenbucher padded the cushion in the 5th, Alexis Kapsambelis plated two more in the 6th with a two-out single -- her second hit of the contest.

Melissa Jakubowski contributed two hits and scored twice for UNE, and Anna Sessa touched home two times, as well. Sydnee Bessler retired all but one of the eight batters she faced in relief to earn the winning decision. Katelyn Austin started in the circle and conceded three earned runs with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.

Heidi Gomez was charged with the loss for Lions. Coix notched a team-high two hits.

Eastern Nazarene earned the split by taking GAME 2 with a one-out home run to center from Lauren Weidler in the 8th frame. It was her second knock of the match -- both cleared the straightaway fence.

Lauren Clements also had two hits for the Lions, including an RBI-single in the bottom of the 1st that scored Kayleen Garrick for the first of two occasions. Elisabeth Schaffer went the distance for the victory in the circle, recording nine strikeouts.

For the Nor'easters, Melissa Sprague took the setback with three earned runs and six strikeouts. Alberghini registered a squad-best two hits.

Schoenbucher and Gosper began the 4th with hits, and both scored on the next two plays to put UNE up 2-1.

Weidler tied the game in the last half of the stanza, before Schoenbucher restored the advantage in the 5th on a sacrifice fly that plated Alberghini.

ENC's Kori Bow doubled and tallied the equalizer (3-3) in the 5th on a sacrifice bunt-turned error.

UNE looked to take the lead right back with two out in the 6th, working the bases full, but Big Blue was unable to convert.

Next Up: The Nor'easters are slated to head for Endicott College on Thursday (3 p.m.).
