Curro caps Nor'easters' 4th-quarter rally for 8-7 win over Colby

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Andrew Curro (SR/Niskayuna, N.Y.) scored with 3:39 remaining [WATCH] to give the University of New England an exciting 8-7 come-from-behind win over Colby College in non-conference men's lacrosse action Tuesday evening (Mar. 7) at the Big Blue Turf. 

The Nor'easters won for the fourth time in four starts to improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 2012 season. Colby dropped its second one-goal decision to fall to 0-2. The victory pushed head coach Charlie Burch's career win total to 42, making him the winningest coach in the history of the program.

Curro's game-winner capped a fourth-quarter comeback for the Nor'easters, who saw themselves down by two (7-5) heading into the final frame. Dan Auger (SR/Nashua, N.H.) notched a pair of man-up goals to tie the game for UNE and set the stage for Curro. [WATCH-1/WATCH-2]

Auger and Alex Zadworny (SO/Florence, Mass.) finished with two goals apiece for pace UNE. Curro, Tom Lutrell (JR/Greenbrae, Calif.), Collin Morrow (FY/Nashua, N.H.) and Mitch Mullin (SO/Cumberland, Maine) accounted for the Nor'easters' other markers.

Colby received two-goal performances from Austin Sayre (SR/Summit, N.J.) and Tucker Dietrick (JR/Wellesley, Mass.), while Cillian Connor (JR/Glen Ridge, N.J.), Carlos Beason (SO/Bronx, N.Y.) and Rocky Tonkel (FY/Washington, D.C.) each scored once.

Trailing 5-3 at halftime, Colby asserted itself in the third quarter outshooting UNE 14-5 to score four unanswered goals and take a 7-5 advantage into the pivotal fourth frame.

David Pearson (SR/Scarborough, Maine) had 10 saves to earn the win for the Nor'easters, who received an 8-for-12 face-off performance from Sean Conger (SR/Holden, Mass.).

Colby goalkeeper C.J. Layton (Wakefield, Mass.) stopped 11 shots.

Both team are scheduled to play matches Saturday. UNE is slated to host MIT at 1 p.m., and the Mules head to Trinity College for 1 p.m. game.
