Bats come alive for Nor'easters in 13-2 victory over Becker

Box Score

LEESBURG, Fla. -- Caroline Schoenbucher went 3-for-3 with four runs batted in to lead a 16-hit parade as the University of New England cruised to a 13-2 (5 inning) softball win over Becker College on Sunday evening (Mar. 12) at the Dot Richardson Spring Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.

Three others supported with two hit apiece for the Nor'easters (1-2) -- Sydney Helmbrecht, Samantha Dreissig, and Alison Kuechler. Anna Sessa added a two-RBI triple, and, after Schoenbucher's three runs scored, Helmbrecht and Avery Alberghini each crossed the plate twice. Helmbrecht and Alberghini both also stole a pair of bases.

Andrea Gosper, Kelsey Mansfield, and Gabby Harrison all chipped in with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.

Sydnee Bessler fanned six through three innings to get the decision for UNE in the circle. Bailey Tremblay worked two scoreless innings to the finish with a couple strikeouts.

Gosper put the Nor'easters on the board first, but the Hawks (0-2) tallied two runs in the bottom of the 1st with three singles around a groundout.

In the 3rd, one swing by Schoenbucher got the advantage back (3-2), and the margin was two before a seven-spot in the 4th blew things open. UNE sent 12 batters to the dish in the frame.

Rebecca Carkhuff had two hits for Becker. Samantha Belenchia was charged with the loss.
