Nor'easters' rally falls just short in 4-3 setback at Suffolk

Box Score

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. -- Leading 4-1 early in the third period, host Suffolk University held off a late charge by the University of New England to take a 4-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference men's ice hockey win Saturday night  (Feb. 11) at O'Neil Rink.

Suffolk's victory avenged an early-season 8-0 loss to UNE and improved the Rams' record to 6-11-4 overall, 4-9-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action. UNE dipped to 11-8-2 (7-6-2 CCC).

Connor Henry scored a pair of goals to pace the Suffolk offense. Connor Parent and Brian Brooks each added a tally.

UNE received goals from Danny Antonoff, Chris Harlow and Brady Fleurent.

After the Rams had built a 3-0 lead late in the second period, Antonoff got the Nor'easters on the scoreboard to cut the deficit to two (3-1) before the second intermission. Blaise Healy and Ian Rodden assisted on the goal.

Brooks pushed Suffolk's advantage back to three (4-1) at 4:20 of the third before Harlow notched UNE's first short-handed goal of the season less than a minute later. Brady Fleurent drew UNE to within one (4-3) midway through the frame, but the Nor'easters were unable to get the game-tying goal the rest of the way. Trevor Fleurent had an assist on each third-period goal, and Ryan Bloom recorded his 20th helper of the season on Brady Fleurent's marker.

Michael Levine made 29 saves to register the win in goal for Suffolk. UNE starting goaltender Tate Sproxton had 16 stops in 36:09 of ice time before giving way to Joe Noonan, who totaled nine saves.

UNE will face CCC foe Curry College on the road Thursday evening. Start time is slated for 6:45 p.m.
