BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Sam Grad went 10-of-11 from the floor to notch a game-best 24 points as Bowdoin College defeated the University of New England, 120-93, in men's basketball action Tuesday night (Nov. 21) at Morrell Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears (3-0) also received double-doubles from both David Reynolds (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Hugh O'Neil (15 points, 14 rebounds), and a 16-point, eight-assist performance by Jack Bors. Stephen Ferraro and Zavier Rucker tossed in 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Bowdoin commanded the glass by a 67-47 margin, and shot 52 percent (46-for-88) from the field in the game.
For the Nor'easters (1-3), who made 32 percent (33-of-102) of their looks,
Ryan Matthews led the way with 17 points.
Daron Hoges, Jr. connected on four triples for 12 points.
UNE led 9-2 in the early-going, but that cushion disappeared as part of a 15-0 run by the hosts that made it 20-12 in favor of Bowdoin. The gap briefly went into double digits before the Nor'easters closed to within 40-36 with less than three minutes until halftime. However, in a span of 2:33, the Polar Bears tallied 16 of the next 21 points and went into the break sitting on a 56-44 advantage.
The spread was no less than 13 the rest of the way.
UNE will look to get back in the win column on Sunday at Bates College.
