Salve Regina surges to pull away from UNE

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – Salve Regina University scored four times in a span of 4:11 midway through the 3rd period to separate from the University of New England and pick up an 8-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) decision on Friday night (Nov. 17) at the Portsmouth Abby Rink.

The Seahawks (5-1-0, 4-1-0 CCC) jumped out the early advantage, pocketing three goals in their first eight shots, courtesy of Cameron Russo, Jack Billings, and Timothy Sweeney.

The Nor'easters (2-2-1, 2-2-1 CCC) managed to get on the board 1:02 into the 2nd with a goal by Tyler Seltenreich. After Billings restored Salve's three-goal cushion, UNE inched closer down the stretch in the 2nd frame as Max Rasberg and Seltenreich again moved the visitors to within one (4-3) entering the final stanza. Ryan Bloom recorded two assists during the middle session.

Shaun Patry notched two of goals for the Seahawks in the last period, while Sweeney chalked up another and Kyle Moore added his name to the score sheet.

Blake Wojtala made 19 saves for SRU. Ben Churchfield came off the bench to log 45 minutes in goal for the Nor'easters, and posted 24 saves.

The two teams will make their way to Biddeford on Saturday for a 7 p.m. puck-drop the Harold Alfond Forum.
