BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England stormed back from a two-set deficit to claim a 3-2 women's volleyball victory (24-26, 17-25, 25-14, 25-12, 15-11) over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

With the result, the Nor'easters (8-11) earned head coach Karol L'Heureux her 700th career triumph leading the program. She is now one of five active Division III coaches to reach the milestone; the third in as many days, in fact, following Emory University's Jennifer McDowell on Thursday and Eastern University's Mark Birtwistle on Friday. Watch the deciding point of the match

After trailing for the entirety of the 2nd set, UNE jumped out to a 10-2 cushion in the 3rd and never looked back. The Mariners were up (4-2) early in the 4th, until runs of 9-1 and 11-2 by the hosts knotted the match to force the ultimate stanza.

The Nor'easters had the edge from the start of the 5th, and broke away from a 3-all tie to clinch it. MMA was hampered by five service errors in the last session.

Molly Camelo paced the UNE attack with a season-best 18 kills and .455 hitting percentage, to go along with 18 digs. Rene Roggenbuck added 11 winners to the cause, and accumulated 17 total points after three solo blocks and a hand in six others. Sydney Christiansen joined Camelo with a double-double of 21 assists and 12 digs, and Kristen Falcinelli aided the offense with an additional 14 assists. Defensively, Katie Marsh pulled up 20 digs while dropping in three aces.

For Maine Maritime (12-9), Alexa Cacacie had 16 kills and Melissa Spaulding guided the offensive sets with 32 assists. Maria Perez, who also tallied four aces, registered a match-high 22 digs; she was supported by Hannah Butland (16), Jessica D'Auria (15), and Maggie MacMahon (10) in the category.

Back in the opening frame, the Mariners raced out to a 6-1 advantage and maintained a 22-17 lead before four consecutive errors leveled things at 24-24. However, a UNE service error and an MMA ace put the visitors in front.

The two sides had already met in the season-opener, when Maine Maritime came back from down 2-1 to best the Nor'easters on a neutral court.

UNE resumes its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) docket on Tuesday (7 p.m.) at home against Eastern Nazarene College.
