Wentworth tips UNE in double overtime

Statistics

BOSTON -- Wentworth Institute of Technology scored with 4:48 elapsed in the second overtime to give the Leopards a 2-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer victory over the University of New England Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7).

With the win the Leopards improved to 4-7-1 overall, 2-1-1 in conference play. UNE dropped to 5-6-1 overall, 1-3-0 in CCC play.

Wentworth claimed the victory after a shot from the right side was inadvertently knocked in the goal by a UNE defender.

The Nor'easters tallied the lone goal of the opening half when a direct kick by Emily Certo was saved initially, but Katie LaMarre put home the rebound for her first collegiate marker.

The hosts drew even in the 65th minute when a shot by Emma daSilva deflected off a UNE player and found its way into the net.

On the day, Wentworth nearly doubled-up the Nor'easters in shots (27-15) and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Emily Ashman matched her career high with 13 saves for UNE, while Christie Fleming and Micaela Robinson combined to make seven stops.

UNE returns to action Tuesday with a 4 p.m. conference home match versus Gordon College.
