MILTON, Mass. -- The University of New England defeated Curry College by a 3-1 margin (25-20, 24-26, 25-16, 25-18) in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball action Wednesday evening (Oct. 4) at Katz Gymnasium.
Winners of four in-a-row, the Nor'easters (7-10, 2-2 CCC) were paced by 10 kills and three points worth of blocks from
Rene Roggenbuck.
Kristen Falcinelli and
Bekah Mather each registered eight kills, while Falcinelli also put up 15 assists and 16 digs. A double-double similar to Falcinelli's came from
Sydney Christiansen, with 17 assists and 13 digs.
Molly Camelo led UNE's defensive effort -- which held Curry to a -.015 hitting percentage in the match -- with 19 digs, and
Katie Marsh contributed 15 more. Camelo also tacked 10 points on the board, through six kills and four aces.
The Colonels (8-8, 2-3 CCC) received 13 kills from Nicole Rice. Monica Wilkes guided the attack with 25 assists, Grace Stafford notched 11 points with seven kills and four aces, and Jordyn Keith dropped in six aces. On the back row, Courtney Carroll posted 13 digs while Stafford and Shea Mathews had 12 apiece.
UNE, which is now 7-0 all-time versus Curry, returns home on Saturday for a tri-match with the University of Southern Maine (11 a.m.) and Maine Maritime Academy (3 p.m.).
