Nor'easters fend off Saint Joseph's, 3-2

STANDISH, Maine -- The University of New England saw a two-set advantage wiped away but held on for the 3-2 triumph (25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 19-25, 15-11) over Saint Joseph's College of Maine in women's volleyball action Thursday evening (Oct. 26) at the Harold Alfond Center.

It was the second win in three meetings with the Monks during 2017 -- the Nor'easters (11-13) had taken the first contest in four sets on a neutral court, while SJC (14-15) swept the middle match in Biddeford.

Rene Roggenbuck dialed up 12 kills and eight blocks for UNE, and notched seven of those points (3 and 4) in the deciding frame. Bekah Mather topped the visiting squad in kills with 15, Micaela McNamara went for 10 more, and Molly Camelo chipped in with nine. 

Sydney Christiansen put together a 24-assist, 15-dig, and seven-kill performance, while fellow setter Kristen Falcinelli totaled 20 assists and 17 digs. The defensive effort received 25 digs from Katie Marsh, and another 13 out of Paige Simoneau.

Kelsey Bickford had a double-double of 15 kills and 16 digs for the hosts. Jordynne Copp contributed 12 winners for St. Joe's, and Sophia Randall framed 35 points with the assist. Jennelle Thompson registered 29 digs.

The Nor'easters (4-4 CCC) will now prepare for their Commonwealth Coast Conference finale at Salve Regina University (5-3 CCC) on Saturday (1 p.m.).
