PORTLAND, Maine – Kirkland Academy (N.J.) bested the University of New England football team, 26-14, on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
UNE is nearly through a season's worth of games against collegiate junior varsity programs and prep schools, before starting its full varsity schedule and membership in
Commonwealth Coast Football in 2018.
The Nor'easters received 11 completions and 104 yards of passing from
Brian Peters, 43 of which went to
Tyler Knights in two catches. Sharing the team-high of three receptions was
Ryan Gaboury and
Austin Dutremble. One of three carries for
Parker Belsky was a short run for the offense's lone touchdown.
On the other side of the ball,
Nick Scarfo accumlated 12 tackles and
Ryan Phelps added another 10. Scarfo recovered a fumble in the end zone, and shared a sack with
Patrick Saunders.
Ben Howell pulled down an interception.
UNE will conclude its pre-varsity campaign on Saturday (12 p.m.) with a rematch at Bridgton Academy, which slipped past the Nor'easters on October 14 by a score of 34-31.
