Golden Bears top Nor'easters in three sets

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Emmaline Chiolini tallied match-highs of 11 kills and 17 digs to lead Western New England University in a 3-0 result (25-21, 25-16, 25-21) against the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) duel on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The Golden Bears (13-12, 3-4 CCC) received an additional eight kills from Alona Kornberg, while Caitlyn Sibiskie and Jenna McCormack both put up 16 asissts. Sibiskie also notched foud service aces.

For the Nor'easters (9-13, 3-4 CCC), Bekah Mather recored 10 kills, and seven apiece came from Rene Roggenbuck and Molly Camelo. Sydney Christiansen posted a double-double of 14 assists and 10 digs; 12 more assists were credited to Kristen Falcinelli, and 10 digs went to Katie Marsh.

Action went back-and-forth during the 1st set, before WNEU got the last four points on UNE miscues. The hosts led the entire way in the 2nd, but trailed 17-14 in the 3rd until an 11-4 closing run sealed the match.

UNE returns home to face Gordon College (3-4 CCC) on Tuesday evening (7 p.m.).
