Bridgton Acad. tips UNE in pre-varsity game

NORTH BRIDGTON, Maine – Bridgton Academy edged the University of New England football team, 34-31, on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 14).

UNE is in the midst of a season's worth of games against collegiate junior varsity programs and prep schools, prior to starting its full varsity schedule and membership in Commonwealth Coast Football in 2018.

Haelin Roberts was on the receiving end of three UNE passing touchdowns, part of his nine catches for 139 yards. Brian Peters tossed two of those, as he completed 13 passes for 164 yards. Nick Granata threw for the other score -- a 32-yard strike to Roberts. Ryan Gaboury also had a big day for the Nor'easters, with six receptions amounting to 106 yards.

The ground game got 57 yards on eight carries from Parker Belsky. Jack Mahoney found the end zone on one of his four rushes.

On the defensive side of the ball, Patrick Saunders had eight tackles and a sack. D'Andre James also recorded eight tackles, while both Mitchell Hennings and Nick Scarfo racked up seven more.

UNE now prepares for Kirkland Academy, a prep school out of New Jersey. The game will kick-off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
