NEWPORT, R.I. -- Abby McMackin found the back of the net twice in the last 2:10 of regulation to pull Salve Regina University into a 2-2 double overtime draw against the University of New England in a rainy Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer match Saturday afternoon (Oct. 14) at Reynolds Field.
The Seahawks (4-8-3, 1-3-2 CCC) were out-shooting the Nor'easters (6-7-2, 1-4-1 CCC) by a 22-9 margin entering the 88th minute, before McMackin extended the contest with her two unassisted goals. The equalizer came with 37 seconds on the clock.
UNE had the best chance to end it during the extra sessions, as the closing seconds of 2OT ticked away, but the put-back attempt in the box off a saved free kick whistled fractionally left of the cage.
The Nor'easters got on the board in the 17th minute off the foot of
Sydney Littlefield, and added to the advantage in the 61st minute on a marker by
Katie Beaudoin.
Emily Ashman did her part to maintain that lead for the majority of the day, amassing a career-high 15 saves defending the Nor'easters' end.
Morgan McBrier totaled four stops in goal for Salve Regina.
UNE will be back at home on Wednesday (6:30 p.m.) to face Curry College.
