Nationally-ranked Hobart handles UNE, 5-1

Box Score

GENEVA, N.Y. -- Hobart received goals from five different players on its way to a 5-1 victory over the University of New England in non-league men's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon (Jan. 14) at The Cooler.

Hobart -- ranked ninth in the most recent United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) national poll -- improved its record to 9-2-3, while the Nor'easters dropped back to 7-6-1.

The lone goal of the first period came courtesy of Bo Webster at 13:50 of the frame. The Statesmen had been awarded a penalty shot just 2:58 into the contest, but UNE netminder Tate Sproxton was up to the occasion, stopping the attempt.

The Nor'easters were able to tie the game at 6:51 of the second. With his team on a power play, Ryan Bloom lifted a shot that caromed off the crossbar and into the cage. Danny Antonoff and Dmitris Jones were credited with assists.

From that point it was all Hobart. The Statesmen took the lead for good midway through the stanza on a goal by Jonas Toupal. They would extend their advantage to 3-1 five minutes later on Ben Greiner's goal.

Jack Mcnee tallied at 2:51 of the third to make the score 4-1, and Nick Bingaman added a late empty-net goal to help secure the victory.

Hobart held a commanding 45-20 margin in shots. Goaltender Alexander Connal remained unbeaten (6-0-2) in goal for Hobart, making 19 saves.

Sproxton finished with 40 stops for the Nor'easters, who play a road contest versus Wentworth Institute of Technology on Thursday.
