Huskies win fourth in-a-row, topping UNE 3-0

GORHAM, Maine -- Jess Williamson knocked down 14 kills to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 3-0 victory over the University of New England in women's volleyball action Wednesday evening (Sep. 7) at Hill Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-21, 25-21, and 25-18.

The Huskies (4-1) came out on top of their fourth consecutive match, while the Nor'easters fall back to 1-2.

Williamson also had 11 digs and four aces to go with her contest-high kills total, and Mo Raymond added five winners. Megan Nilson and Nicole Schmitz went for 18 and 13 assists, respectively. Jenna Graves tallied 14 digs and Nilson picked up 11 more.

For UNE, Erika Sawicki notched 11 kills, with Grayson Szczepaniak pitching in with seven and Rene Roggenbuck contributing six (also 4 blocks). Kristen Falcinelli had 24 assists and eight digs; Brittany Morrison recorded a team-best nine digs.

Big Blue will head for Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Friday to compete in the Vassar College Invitational. On the docket that evening and into Saturday are Alfred University, Vassar, SUNY Purchase, and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
