BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Rookie
Katie Beaudoin came off the bench to score three times in the second half and break open a scoreless match, as the University of New England earned a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer victory over Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 24) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Â
The Nor'easters extended their strong start to the season, improving to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Lions fell to 2-6 and are winless in three CCC matches.
Despite out-shooting the visitors 15-1 in the opening half, the Nor'easters were unable to punch in a goal and saw themselves tied heading into intermission.Â
Beaudoin took over 15 minutes into the frame, tallying a hat-trick in a span of 14:07. She gave UNE all the scoring it would need for the win in the 61st minute, converting a pass from
Edie Pallozzi for her third goal of the season.
Taylor Littlefield Langevin received a secondary assist after hitting Pallozzi with a pass from the middle of the field.
Beaudoin would double the Nor'easters' advantage in the 72nd minute, collecting a loose ball and dribbling to the top of the box before depositing it into the back of the net after Eastern Nazarene keeper Anastasia Swift had come off her line. Beaudoin struck again less than four minutes later when
Anna Michaud sent a beautiful feed to Beaudoin, who roofed a one-timer.
UNE dominated all facets of the match, leading in shots (37-2) and corner kicks (17-0) while keeping possession in ENC's defensive end nearly the entire afternoon. The margin of victory would have been larger had it not been for the strong goalkeeping of Swift. She finished with 17 saves, including several beauties in the first half to keep UNE off the scoreboard.
Brielle Robinson topped the lone Lion shot on goal to earn her third individual shutout of the season and 18th of her career for the Nor'easters, who will play a Tuesday road match at Bowdoin College.
The Lions host Becker College on Wednesday evening.
