UNE continues strong start with 3-0 win over Salve

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's soccer team received goals from three different players on its way to a 3-0 shutout of Salve Regina University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match played Saturday afternoon (Sept. 17) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The win pushes the Nor'easters' overall record to 4-1, while improving their conference mark to 2-0. The Seahawks dipped to 4-3 overall, 1-1 in league play.

UNE started slowly and was unable to get on the scoreboard until the 31st minute when rookie Katie Beaudoin chased down a long ball out of the UNE back that went off the foot of a Seahawk defender. Beaudoin took two touches before lifting a shot into the left side of the goal for her second collegiate tally.

The Nor'easters doubled their cushion just over four minutes later when Taylor Littlefield Langevin converted a penalty kick after Salve was whistled for an infraction inside the 18.

Taylor Usko gave UNE a 3-0 lead in the early stages of the second half after she controlled a loose ball in front of the goal mouth and pushed the ball across the goal line for her first marker of the season.

UNE, which built up a 20-6 margin in shots, got three saves from Brielle Robinson for her 17th career individual shutout.

Carly Pala had six saves in goal for the Seahawks, who play Bridgewater State University at home Tuesday.

The Nor'easters will host Bates College on Monday for a non-conference match kicking off at 7:30 p.m.
