BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Matt DiVite scored on a header with 4:00 remaining in regulation to tie the match 1-1, and the University of New England and Bates College would play a pair of scoreless 10-minute overtime periods for a 1-1 non-conference men's soccer draw Wednesday night (Sept. 14) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

Dan Good's header gave the Nor'easters a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute after Callum Heaslewood sent in a beautiful service from the right corner. Dexter Doucet had found Heaslewood with a pass to get the play started and earn a secondary assist.

Bates was able to draw even late off a corner kick. Eric Opoku played one-two with Justin Yacovino on a short corner before finding DiVite with a service toward goal. DiVite's header conversion was his first tally of the season.

After very little was mounted on the attack for each team in the first overtime period, both UNE and Bates would have a chance to win the match late in the final extra frame. Good nearly directed a diving header into the goal, but his bid went just wide left with 3:40 remaining on the clock. The Bobcats countered with just over a minute to play when Max Watson headed a shot from close range that UNE goalkeeper Nate Delesdernier denied.

Delesdernier recorded eight saves in his first collegiate game in goal, while Robbie Montanaro had five stops for Bates.

Both teams play conference matches Saturday. The Bobcats head to Tufts University for a NESCAC game starting at 2:30 p.m. UNE hosts a Commonwealth Coast Conference tilt versus Salve Regina University. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
