Scoring Summary
SEAFORD, N.Y. -- The University of New England women's rugby team made the most of its opening intercollegiate varsity match, routing Molloy College of Rockville Centre, N.Y., 68-10, Saturday afternoon (Sept. 10) at Cedar Creek Park.
Lara Murnik paced the UNE attack with four tries, three of which came after halftime.
Kassidy Towne chipped in two tries and a pair of conversions, while
Zoe Adams,
Mackenzie Anderson,
Katie Gorenflo and
Caitlin Paredes each added a try.
Emily Richard racked up seven conversions (in 7 attempts) to account for 14 points on the scoreboard. Overall, the Nor'easters were 9 for 10 on conversion attempts.
Leading 7-5 halfway through the first frame, the Nor'easters would reel off 28 consecutive points to take a 35-5 advantage into halftime. UNE would score the opening try after halftime to set the tone for the final minutes.
Defensively, Murnik led the way with eight tackles, followed by Gorenflo and
Jennifer Laferriere with seven apiece. Adams also had several drive-stopping tackles to aid the Nor'easter defense.Â
Jericka Ruiz and Samantha Guido had one try apiece for the Lions (1-1), who failed to convert on each conversion attempt.
The Nor'easters will play their
inaugural home match next Saturday (Sept. 17) they face Harvard University at 12 pm. at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
