UNE opens with convincing 6-1 win over St. Joe's

STANDISH, Maine -- Edie Pallozzi and Taylor Littlefield Langevin each scored a pair of goals to power the University of New England to a 6-1 non-conference win over St. Joseph's College of Maine in a mutual women's soccer season-opening match Thursday afternoon (Sept. 1) at Westerlea Way Field.

After Haley DeGraca converted on the Monks' first shot of the game to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage in the sixth minute, Pallozzi cleaned up a rebound of a shot by Becca Murphy less than a minute later to tie the game. Littlefield Langevin gave the Nor'easters the lead for good in the ninth minute, and Pallozzi followed with her second marker of the contest four minutes later to double UNE's margin (3-1). Rachael Guilford followed with her first collegiate goal in the 27th minute to provide the Nor'easters with a 4-1 margin, which they would take into intermission.

Rookie Ashley Sherman and Littlefield Langevin added goals less than a minute apart in the early stages of the second half to provide UNE's final margin of 6-1.

Murphy finished with a career-best three assists to help fuel the Nor'easters' attack. Littlefield Langevin set-up one goal to finish with a five-point afternoon.

Starting goalkeeper Brielle Robinson had five saves over the opening 74:45 to record the victory. Emily Ashman played the rest of the way in goal for UNE.

Brooke Troup totaled four stops in 85 minutes of playing time for St. Joe's.

The Nor'easters are idle until next Wednesday (Sept. 7) when they play Husson University in their home-opener at Barbara J. Hazard Field. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m.
