BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Six different players scored during a 7-0 run in the middle of the opening half as the University of New England reversed a three-goal deficit on the way to a 16-7 men's lacrosse win over New England College on Wednesday afternoon (Mar. 2) at the Big Blue Turf.

Two early goals by the Pilgrims (0-2), and another at the 5:15 mark of the 1st quarter, made it 3-0 in favor of the visitors. Tom Luttrell got the Nor'easters (1-1) on the board 44 seconds later, and the home side held a 4-3 edge at the end of the period.

With 7:17 left in the 2nd frame, UNE had assumed a 7-3 cushion, and each team added one before halftime (8-4).

Big Blue continued to extend the gap in the 3rd (11-5) and even more in the 4th.

Andrew Curro notched a game-high five points for the Nor'easters -- one of three, along with Luttrell and J.T. Oliver, to net a hat trick. Connor Leggett and Remy Watt each added a pair of markers, while David Rubenstein registered a goal and two assists.

Leggett, Sean Conger, and Sam Sahl combined to control the face-off X, taking 20 of the 25 draws. Defensively, Nick George had four ground balls and two caused turnovers in front of goalies John Dusel and David Pearson, who made four and seven saves, respectively, in equal action.

New England College received three goals from William Pendleton, and a goal with two helpers out of Sean Largay. Connor Fries corralled a match-best nine ground balls and four caused turnovers. William Platt made a dozen stops in the cage.

UNE returns to competition with back-to-back home games this weekend, beginning with Plymouth State University on Saturday (12 p.m.) and then No. 8 Bates College on Sunday (2 p.m.).
