Keene State nips UNE in 10-inning battle, 4-3

Box Score

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- Level at 1-all through regulation, Keene State College scored once in each of three extra innings to finish just ahead of the University of New England, 4-3, on Sunday morning (Mar. 13) at the Dot Richardson Spring Softball Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.

Caroline Schoenbucher put the Nor'easters (2-1) on the board in the bottom of the 1st after a lead-off single, and that margin held until the top of the 7th, when a single, walk, and single provided an equalizer for the Owls (2-3). KSC attempted to edge in front later in the frame with a steal of home, but the play was negated by the UNE defense.

Keene State went ahead in the 8th on a sacrifice fly, only to see a Schoenbucher triple even things up. Then an error aided the Owls in taking a 3-2 advantage in the 9th, before UNE's Andrea Gosper tied the match again with a two-out RBI-double to center.

The Nor'easters faced another one-run deficit entering the bottom of the 10th, and managed to get runners to first and second with no outs, but the game came to an end soon after with a play at the plate.

Mariah Crisp registered the win in the circle for the Owls, going the distance with eight strikeouts.

Gosper matched Schoenbucher with two hits for UNE. In the circle, Sophia Burnham fanned three and gave up three hits over seven innings. Abby Lambert kept KSC hitless the rest of the way but took the setback.
