Box Score

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- Alena Marovitz went 3-for-3 at the dish to lead Amherst College back in the latter innings for a 6-3 win over the University of New England on Sunday afternoon (Mar. 13) at the Dot Richardson Spring Softball Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.

The Purple and White trailed 3-1 in the 2nd, but Marovitz scored one in the bottom of the 5th after a one-out double and then drove in two with another double to cap a four-run 6th and turn things around.

Nicolette Miranda pitched the last 3 2/3 innings for Amherst (4-0), striking out four while giving up three hits and no walks.

Kyra Naftel had four hits in as many at bats for AC, and scored twice. Sammy Salustri and Lauren Tuiskula notched two hits apiece, while Tuiskula had two RBI.

Amherst got on the board in its first chance, only to see UNE (2-2) answer with three in the top of the 2nd. The Nor'easters combined two hits with three walks to do damage in the frame, with Avery Alberghini coming through on a one-out single that plated a pair.

UNE left two aboard in both the 3rd and 4th and could not extend the lead, though Melissa Sprague held onto the cushion working from the circle, fanning three over 4 2/3 innings.

A lead-off walk and four straight one-out hits by Amherst off Katelyn Austin proved to be the difference. The Nor'easters put two on with two down in the top of the 7th, but was not able to get any back.

Ablerghini went 3-for-3 in the game, while Amanda Vallante and Kelly Murphy each recorded two hits for UNE.
