Box ScoreCLERMONT, Fla. -- The University of New England built a six-run cushion through four rounds at the plate and posted a 6-1 season-opening victory over the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Saturday morning (Mar. 12) at the Dot Richardson Spring Softball Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.
Abby Lambert earned the win in the circle for the Nor'easters (1-0), scattering four hits and a walk over five innings or work. She also scored Big Blue's first run in the top of the 2nd on an RBI-single by
Kelly Murphy.
UNE took advantage of some loose plays in the field by the Eagles (4-11) in the 3rd and added three more runs. Then, after a lead-off single by
Erin Walsh in the 4th,
Caroline Schoenbucher came up two batters later with a home run to left to make it 6-0.
Northwestern turned a pair of singles and an error into a run in the bottom of the 4th. Jennifer Ankrom recorded her second hit of the match and scored in the inning.
Lambert, Murphy, and Schoenbucher each had two hits for the Nor'easters.
Lauren Silbernick took the loss for the Eagles.
