Box ScoreCLERMONT, Fla. -- The University of New England surrendered a pair of runs in the top of the 1st, but came back with five by the end of the 2nd on the way to a 7-4 win over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 12) at the Dot Richardson Spring Softball Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.
The Nor'easters (2-0) combined four hits with four errors by the Bears (4-5) over the 1st and 2nd at-bats to gain a 5-2 edge, following a two-run homer by CGA's Hayden Short in the opening frame.
Coast Guard got one back in the 3rd with a home run by Cherokee Strickland, but UNE made it 7-3 in the last half of the 6th.
Lauren Jones had two hits and three RBI for Big Blue, while
Avery Alberghini drove in one on two hits, and scored twice.
Caroline Schoenbucher also cross the plate two times. In the circle,
Katelyn Austin went six innings to earn the decision.
Sarah Sorensen took the loss for the Bears.
