WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Peter Mafo, Allister Williams, Shane Pasquantonio, and Jesus Sanchez accounted for 60 points as the Westfield State University men's basketball team defeated the University of New England by a 94-75 margin on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 11) at the Woodward Center.
Mafo led the Owls (3-7) with 18 points, and Williams followed with 15 points and six rebounds. Pasquantonio went for 14 points and nine boards, while Sanchez totaled 13 points and five assists. The hosts shot 47.5 percent (29-for-61) from the floor in the contest.
For the Nor'easters (2-7),
Jean-Luc Parker hit 5-of-7 from long range and netted 24 points -- four better than his previous career high.
Drew Coveney had 12 points and six rebounds for the visitors, who made just 37.3 percent (25-of-67) their shot attempts.
With a 5-3 cushion in the early-going, Westfield State posted nine unanswered to gain control (14-3) of the match. The lead was no less than six the rest of the day.
Another 9-0 spurt later in the opening frame established a 40-24 padding. The spread was 15 (43-28) at the break, and stayed in double digits for the remainder of the game.
UNE will now pause its schedule for almost three weeks, resuming with a road date against No. 19 Keene State College on December 30.
